At 8:46pm tonight I received a news alert from the New York Times that read "
Senate Democrats Likely to Drop Medicare Expansion." I thought I read it wrong, or the Times was mistaken, or maybe the headline was just misleading/catchy so people would read the article which would result in more revenue in advertisements. Unfortunately, it was none of these scenarios.
The article quotes Senator Baucus saying he…

So what could be the true happening in our nation? Thus recession still on or not? Well, the sad realization of this is that we are still struggling enough to provide our needs as well as our family. Many our still get unemployed because of many business establishments/companies that developed into bankruptcy. Is there still hope for our nation's economy?

I can't believe that the good people of Connecticut sent Joe Lieberman back to the Senate after already having told him to take a hike. On health reform, he's the Senator from Aetna. It's mind-boggling how hard-assed he is being about funding experiments to pay for health care in different ways. No public option. No expansion of Medicare. No CLASS act. Take that all away
he says, and "y…

Iraq is selling off its oil fields -- and guess who is NOT getting the fields --
After all that blood, death, destruction, the American oil companies are not getting the pick of the litter --
So much for Bush & Cheney's grand scheme --
Do you hear that sound -- it is the sound of the souls screaming from their graves -- all their lives lost on a fool's errand

Recent bit on the Nation:
"On a segment for GRITtv, Nation correspondent John Nichols sheds light on the American founding principle that presidents cannot define the debate about wars--and reminds us that it is up to Congress, not the Commander-in-Chief, to set the debate and the terms of war. In light of recent announcements about escalation in Afghanistan, Nichols points out that Congress can still step it up--starting with support for a "war surtax," which would make the wealthiest American…

Recent Nation piece:
"Jeremy Scahill, Nation correspondent, appears on "The Rachel Maddow Show" to talk about Blackwater founder Erik Prince's secret involvement with CIA actions against Al Qaeda. On the heels of Obama's troop increase that will bring the total number of troops in Afghanistan to 100,000, it is astonishing to learn that there are more than 100,000 private contractors already in the country--and that Blackwater's own head has been personally involved with plans such as "inserting…

This might be the last time a western power gets kicked out of Afghanistan. Consider this most compelling
story broken by Aram Roston in The Nation, mentioned a
Huff Post article. Even our Ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry -- a military man -- opposes a surge as long as the Afghan government remains mired…

If you think credit card debt is a hassle, you should take a look at U.S. debt. Current levels of U.S. debt are staggering, as over $1.2 trillion has been added to the balance sheet already since the beginning of 2008. Estimates, though they vary, have come out that up to 90% of U.S. GDP will be debt by the end of 2009.
Legislators have imposed a credit limit on spending, and put a ceiling of $12.1 trillion on U.S. debt. It isn't the first time a ceiling has been put in, and in 1995, there was…

Such a fascinating person. I love her approach to the arbitrary and futile modes of self-awareness. The simultaneous need for expression of the self, and the seeming ineffectuality of the expression, is something I identify with.

I like this article on Hobbes. I tend to agree with the notion that personal liberty is most dependent on the will of the individual.

Here's how we do it.
We know that Karzai is exceedingly open to receiving under the table money. So Obama decides to offer a bribe to Karzai so attractive that he can't pass it up. It is lots of money and an offer for him and family and close friends to reside for the rest of their lives in the US with guaranteed safeguards if he so chooses. For this bribe all Karzai must do is to declare that all foreign troops must leave Afghanistan within 6 months for the sake of peace.
Then the Nobel Peace…

I love Sesame Street. Before going to pre-school I would watch it and while being fully entertained, I would also be learning from Big Bird and all his friends. It's the shows
40th anniversary this week, which should remind us how teaching is one of the most important parts of our society but unfortunately can sometimes be taken for granted.
When trying to hold teachers and schools accountable…
