Katrina, PS-- I'm a Nation Associate. I chipped in more than my subscription but the handwriting appears to be on the wall. Someday, we'll all be connected with voice activated flatscreens.

Print Media is dead....sob.

As someone who loves books, it is sad indeed to see a fellow paper and ink product in trouble. However...according to the Oregonian, comedian David Chapell attracted somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000 people to a free concert in a downtown square in Portland last night--by posts on Facebook. In many ways, 'The New Yorker online is a better product than the print edition.
I know, Katrina, you're talking about postal rates and politics, something near and dear to Ben Franklin, but these days, even credit card companies are trying to lure us to recieve their bills digitally and pay online. It is indeed a brave new world. As to celebretizing the news...I guess things can't be too bad when Michael Jackson's death preempts Iraq, Afghanistan, the national debt and unemployment as the story of the week.

It is the whole demeanour of news people, they look and act like entertainers. In many cases these people try to be part of the news rather than just presenters of same.
The mere fact the Time Warner, a show business conglomerate, has the ability to damage the nation, speaks volumes for the system.
You take for granted that I know about and can compare Mr.Jackson and Ms.Jolie with a serious matter such as postal charges, the system presupposes that we all keep abreast of celebs as much as real news. well, a lot uf us don't!
The emphasis is on Katrina and not the subject.
The subject is important enough and not the messenger!
I am afraid it may be a cultural thing, which I probably don't understand too well.
No matter whether it is Katrina, Tom Cruise or Mr X, the subject matter is what counts!

Andrew, not sure I get your point. Are you saying that this video is show business? If so, there are all sorts of effective ways of delivering a serious message and video and other forms of multimedia are pretty powerful new ways to do just that these days. We're not talking about Michael Jackson or Angelie Jolie here. We're talking about efforts by a huge corporate conglomerate....Time Warner...to put small, independent publications out of business with huge, unfair postal increases. And putting Katrina on screen to deliver that very message is pretty powerful stuff.

Sorry...but until THE NATION begins to investigate ALL the news, I remain unsympathetic.

Unfortunately, Katrina falls right in line with corporate, complicit media when it comes to investigating the
conclusive evidence that explosives brought down the Twin Towers and Building 7 on 9/11.

The pretext to all the wars and war crimes that are investigated is an un-investigated crime...and the MOTHER of ALL War crimes...9/11 terror....a topic that remains off the editor's table.

Failure to investigate and report hard evidence of the biggest crime of mass murder in American history...that was most likely a False Flag betrays their subscribers and the public's need to know.

The science is there in the form of a peer-reviewed publication, and years of media-ignored work by over 1,000 architects, engineers and building professionals.

People are not buying news when they know too many valid issues are deemed taboo by whoever tells THE NATION what not to cover.. People are finding out they can better trust selected internet sources by those patriots who are willing to risk more to report ALL the news.

Here's the latest in an ocean of evidence that is conclusive for the planned demolition of the twin towers and WTC7 on 9/11/2001.

Once again Show Business is the dominant factor!
Any thinking person should consider this an inadmissible intrusion into a basic service.

How on earth can an increase in postal charges be promoted and almost approved by Time Warner for God's sake, that would be a Govt. decision in Europe as postal services are state run services.
